Central Hove Guide
Central Hove is considerably flatter than neighbouring Brighton and for many this is reason enough to live in the area. When you combine this with the elegant architecture to be found, in particular around the squares of Brunswick, Palmeira and Adelaide there is plenty to like. Church Road runs through the middle of Hove and is home to a mix of designer shops and high end restaurants. Those fortunate enough to be on the seafront benefit from views across Hove Lawns, while further inland is St Ann's Well Gardens, where neighbouring properties are in the Art Deco style.
Best pub
The Better Half is a lovely pub, tucked away on Hove Place. Somehow quirky and traditional in equal measure with great food served as well.
Best place to eat
Wild Flor on Church Road is simply perfect. Modern and seasonal food in a superb restaurant. The owners are lovely too.
Best thing to see or do
Hove Lawns and the Hove end of the beach is the place for the locals. Considerably quieter than the Brighton end this is the place to come down to is a day on the beach is your cup of tea.
Best Kept Secret
We think that Department on Blatchington Road is the best place to hunt for vintage furniture. Unlike some of the flea markets around North Laine this place is not so frequented by the casual shoppers and as a result there is more chance of finding a bargain.
Reason to live there
Central Hove is largely made up of converted flats or purpose-built mansion blocks making it extremely popular with young professionals and those looking to downsize. Away from the main Church Road/Western Road strip are some impressive period villas offering sizable family homes with an exclusive address.
