Preston Park & Fiveways Guide
Best pub
The Preston Park Tavern on Havelock Road is a fantastic local pub. Good food, decent service and always a nice vibe. Sunday lunches are always a winner here, and with Blakers Park just round the corner it’s a good spot for a family get-together.
Best place to eat
The Hop & Vine is found on Ditchling Road by Fiveways and is great little restaurant. During the day its child friendly and is a relaxed dining experience in the evening. Best known for their pizzas they also have a pretty good wine list.
Best thing to see or do
Spend a sunny afternoon picnicking in Preston Park. One of the joys of city living is spending long afternoons in the park with family and friends, and Preston Park is a great place to do this. Good facilities, lots of space, and flat enough for a game of cricket.
Best Kept Secret
It might be pushing it to call it a secret as there is regularly a queue at lunchtime but Ravens is one of those unassuming businesses that more than delivers - a proper old-school bakery where everything is fresh. Great bread, delicious cakes, and superb pastries on the weekend; James from the office can be spotted there most Saturday mornings.
Reason to live there
In a nutshell, schools. Downs, Balfour, Dorothy Stringer, and Varndean are amongst the most popular schools in the city – hence the desirability of the area. When you then add pretty tree-lined streets made up of attractive Victorian and Edwardian houses, as well as lovely parks and good local shops, it is easy to see why so many choose Preston Park & Fiveways.
