Wyndham Street is a residential road that runs south from Upper St James’s Street, towards Marine Parade and the sea. Only moments from the beach, and with Kemptown’s local independent shops, bars, cafés, pubs and restaurants on the doorstep, this truly seaside location is quintessential Brighton. Soho Beach House is a short walk away on Madeira Drive while the new sea lanes development to the east will be opening in May 2023. The site will include a 50m open-air heated swimming pool. Kemptown is well served by bus routes running along St James’s Street and Marine Parade. Brighton station is within walking distance, or only a 15 minute bus ride away.
The property itself is a beautiful mid-eighteenth-century cottage built in the flint-cobble style. Approached across a delightful front patio garden a porched entranceway opens to the main living area. The kitchen/dining room is attractively designed with plenty of space for entertaining. The kitchen itself is traditionally designed with a mix of shaker-style units and open shelves with space for a large range cooker. Wooden floors and exposed beams ensure plenty of period charm. Across the hall is the sitting room which is again full of character and offers a cosy retreat.
Upstairs are two double bedrooms with the principal room being particularly well-proportioned. Sisal carpets and a range of traditionally built wardrobes add a touch of class, while a large window to the front fills the room with light. The bathroom completes the accommodation and is fitted with a traditional suite of roll-top bath, wash basin set in a vanity unit, and low level wc.
What the owner says:
“We consider ourselves as very fortunate to have lived in this, one of a kind cottage by the sea. Within the walls of this house built in 1751 there is a lot of love. Although cute and charming, the rooms are big enough to live comfortably, they are clean, well maintained and practical. We love to cook and the kitchen has been planned to maximise space. In fact, that is theme throughout the house - the maximising of space.
During the day it is bright and airy, and at night it is warm and cosy. In the winter we keep warm, dry and comfortable and in the summer we open up the doors and windows and let the sea air in. Our front garden and porch are a god send throughout the year, but especially the summer months where we spend the days our there on our bench amongst the pot plants - it is like the front space becomes an additional room. Wyndham Street is about as authentic as you can get, a true Brighton space, full of period features, well maintained houses and excellent neighbours. It really feels like a community. The seascape can be seen at the end of the street and the beach and all the beach facilities are just five minute walk away.
The immediate area we live in has everything you could possibly need with a heady mixture of cafés and restaurants, with the bulk of our shopping done at the local greengrocer, deli, butcher or baker, both award winning. We are close enough to central Brighton to feel a part of the vibrant life, but positioned just far enough away from the hub so as to feel at peace. “
