Lewes Road Guide
Best pub
The Martha Gunn has been brilliantly refurbished and is now the stand-out pub in the area. A great selection of beers, decent food, and a quiet pub garden make it well worth a visit.
Best place to eat
Brinjals on Lewes Road is one of those unassuming gems that needs to be visited to be appreciated. This is one of our favourite Indian restaurants in the city; friendly informal service and a BYO policy add to the charm but it is the food that wins out here.
Best thing to see or do
Patchfest in August has become a legendary event; held at ‘The Patch’ (William Clarke Park) this is now a two day event featuring local bands and various food stalls.
Best Kept Secret
Back A Yard is a Caribbean street food stall found on Lewes Road, just opposite St Martin’s Church. It doesn’t look like much and if you were driving past you could miss it but this is the place for an authentic taste of the Caribbean.
Reason to live there
Tipped as the next ‘hotspot’ in Brighton and Hove there has been a noticeable change over the past couple of years as the inevitable coffee shops have started to move in. There are plenty of family homes in the area which are well served by a number of Primary Schools, and the area is popular with young professionals looking for more affordable homes with easy reach of the city centre.
